A Bucks County park remains closed for a second full day as the recovery for a missing park ranger continued on Sunday.
The search started early Friday afternoon for a Department of Conservation and Natural Resources ranger whose kayak capsized near a dam in Neshaminy Creek inside Tyler State Park. He was identified only as a 38-year-old man from Delaware County. The DCNR has not disclosed what the man was doing at the time.
In a joint statement Pennsylvania State Police and the DCNR said the 1,711 acre park would remain closed at least on Sunday as recovery efforts continue. Cars lined up Saturday morning at an entrance to the park off Richboro Road were forced to turn around by police in front of barricades set up in the road.
The park would normally be filled with bikers, hikers, boaters, picnicers and those trying their hand at fishing. Instead, video shows a somber scene with dive teams and first responders along the rushing water of the creek that runs through the park.
'Heartbroken'
The closure affected Driftwater Water Adventures, which rents paddleboards, kayaks and canoes. They had been closed for three days before the ranger went missing due to water conditions, according to their Facebook page.
State Rep. Kristin Marcell, R-Bucks, said she was "heartbroken" about the missing ranger.
"My thoughts are with the employee’s family, loved ones, and fellow park staff during this difficult time. I am deeply grateful to the first responders and emergency personnel for their swift response and continued efforts on the scene. Please join me in keeping everyone affected in your prayers," Marcell wrote on her Facebook page.
