BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Firefighters encountered several exotic animals responding to a fire early Thursday morning.
No people were home at the house on Lakeland Avenue in Bristol Township when firefighters arrived after 1 a.m., according to 3rd District Volunteer Fire Co. Station 14. They encountered heavy fire coming from the rear of the house and "numerous animals" that were rescued.
Two dogs, snakes, lizards, birds and a turtle were found in the house, Third District Fire Company Chief Howard McGoldrick told LevittownLive.com. A cat and a parrot died from smoke inhalation after pet oxygen masks were used, the chief said
The dogs had to be restrained to keep them away from firefighters, according to 6 ABC Action News.
The cause of the fire reamins under investigation.
