LANGHORNE, Pa. — Two families are recovering from an intense fire that heavily damaged a two home before dawn on Saturday and sent 8 people to hospitals.

Langhorne Middletown Fire Company Chief Frank Farry said the fire at the house on West Richardson Avenue started around 5 a.m. An unconscious person was rescued from the second floor while another seven people inside the house got themselves out. Four of the 8 residents evacuated remained hospitalized Saturday afternoon, according to the chief.

Seven cats and a dog died in the fire, Farry told 6 ABC Action News. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police and the Middletown Fire & Emergency Services.

'Everything' lost to fire

Resident Shannon Connolly created a GoFundMe campaign to help the two families recover from the fire that collected nearly $15,000 in less than 24 hours. She said they have lost everything to the blaze.

"Any donation, no matter the size, will be immensely helpful to the family. Your donation will go towards medical bills, clothes, new family car and all daily necessities that were lost. Your generosity is crucial as the family begins to rebuild their lives from scratch," Connolly wrote.

The American Legion of Langhorne is accepting donations of clothing for the families Sunday afternoon from noon until 5 p.m. The size of family members are:

• Men’s Size: Extra Large
• Women’s Sizes: Large & Medium
• Boy’s Size: 11 years old

Donations of cash and gift cards will also be accepted.
