BENSALEM, Pa. — A Baltimore man who police say helped steal $15,000 worth of jewelry from a 79-year-old woman is back in Bucks County.
Bensalem police said the woman who only speaks Gujarati, a South Asian dialect, was called over to an SUV parked in a parking lot on Maltese Court on Sept. 9. A woman in the SUV removes two necklaces and a bracelet from the woman and tries to replace it with fake jewelry.
After the victim rejects the replacements the woman turns and drives off in the pickup. Surveillance video captured an image of the driver who was later identified as Paul Miclescu, 28, of Baltimore. A license plate read determined the pick-up was a rental.
Traced to Baltimore
Bensalem and Baltimore police officers went to Miclescu's home in Baltimore and found him with jewelry in his home but not the pieces from the Bucks County robbery. Miclescu admitted being the driver in Bensalem and was charged with robbery, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property. He waived extradition and is being held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility on $1 million bail.
Miclescu likely pawned the jewelry taken in Bensalem for cash in Maryland, according to Bensalem police.
Detectives are trying to learn to identity of the woman in the incident.
