DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH — The man police say was captured on security footage vandalizing a Tesla outside a gym was formally charged as supporters of owner Elon Musk gathered outside a Bucks County dealership on Saturday.
A Tesla parked in front of the Planet Fitness gym on North Main Street in Doylestown Borough was vandalized Monday morning, according to Central Bucks Regional police. The Tesla owner noticed damage to the rear passenger door. When she got home a closer look showed a swastika had been scratched into her white Tesla.
The vehicle's security footage shows someone parking next their silver Lexus next to the Tesla, ducks behind the vehicle and quickly scratch something into the Tesla before walking away and going into the gym.
Staff at the gym was able to identify the man as Chadd Ritenbaugh, 55, of Buckingham. The gym's security footage matched Ritenbaugh with the Tesla footage. Police say he was charged with criminal mischief, harassment and disorderly conduct. Court documents show Ritenbaugh posted $25,000 bail and he has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 7.
Pro Musk demonstration in Bucks County
Protesters against billionaire Musk’s purge of the U.S. government under President Donald Trump demonstrated outside Tesla dealerships throughout the U.S. but it was a bit different in Bucks County.
The group Indivisible Bucks County on their Facebook page said they were out the previous weekend in front of the Warminster dealership on York Road. They instead held a "large, joyful, peaceful rally" at the Social Security office in Falls Township.
The Warminster location, the only Tesla dealership in Bucks County, was left to Musk and Trump supporters. Video showed them on the sidewalk holding flags with DOGE written on them and Musk and Trump's image in front of the dealership. Drivers honked as they passed by.
After earlier demonstrations that were somewhat sporadic, Saturday marked the first attempt to surround all 277 of the automaker’s showrooms and service centers in the U.S. in hopes of deepening a recent decline in the company’s sales.
